We are excited to implement a new web-based curriculum called MobyMax in our classroom. MobyMax is tailored to your child's individual needs, and I think you will be very impressed by how fast your child will excel while using Moby. Moby's features include:
-Placement tests that accurately identify where your child excels, and where his or her "missing skills" are
-Targeted instruction to "fill in" those missing skills
-Systematic review sessions that ensure that your child retains 100% of what he or she has learned
Best of all, your child can access Moby from your home computer at any time. Login steps for [Student]
Go to our symbaloo website, click moby max and login with their username and password.
Once logged in, your child will immediately start the lessons and begin improving his or her missing skills.
You can sign in as a parent as well by selecting "Parent" from the drop-down menu and entering your child's username and password. You will be able to monitor your child's progress and even send messages to me.

5th Grade News
Personal Matter-   As some of you might be aware, last week I was unexpectedly out of the classroom. I received word that my father-in-law took a turn and was going to be transferred to a hospice house. With that news, I flew down to be with family.  Then on Thursday, he passed away. This coming Friday, I again will be out of the classroom returning to Florida with my children for the weekend.  Thank you for understanding and support as my family and I grieve the loss of a father and grandfather.  I look forward to resuming my normal schedule October 12th.

Reading Homework
Remember your child needs to be reading throughout the week. The goal is to read at least 140 minutes in a week. When they do read, they can read anything as long as they are reading. You may want to suggest a book that will help them reach their 40 book challenge. Weekly logs are always due on Mondays.
Subject Overview
Reading: Students are wrapping up the unit, Reading with Power. Students have responded to their reading in writing and conversations and will learn to make allusions and read with power and expression. We have also begun Interactive Reading Notebooks that allow students to show their understanding and mastery of each reading standard. Writing: Students are crafting personal narratives.  We will be putting our finishing touches on those pieces with strong leads and strong conclusions.  They are doing a great job so far this year!
Math: On Tuesday, we will be taking our Unit 1 test over fractions.  Unit 2 is over decimals- place value, addition, and subtraction of decimals will be emphasized. Be on the lookout for homework pages Mon-Thursday.

Science: Students are learning to identify 8 constellations, as well as, being able to understand how objects in the sky appear to move.
