5th Grade Newsletter- September 14th

Upcoming Dates
September 21- Color Run
Sept 24- 28- Can Drive
Sept 26- Picture Day
Oct 9- Parent Club Meeting

We just sailed through the first three weeks and had a great time getting to know our 5th graders!  We have begun to dive head first into our curriculum.  We have been busy already!  As a 5th grade team, we would like to thank you for your generosity in purchasing school supplies and classroom donations.  We have been “wowed” by your efforts!  Thank you very much!

We also really appreciate the communication we have had so far. In addition to calling or emailing us, you can always write comments or questions in your childʼs agenda and on Remind.  When we see those comments, we will try to respond back that day. We look forward to another great week!

The 5th graders are getting used to our new routines, as well as learning how to take ownership of their own learning.  A few examples are... knowing when it's time to focus, listening to directions, realizing the right time to talk with neighbors, recognizing when not to reach into their desks, asking for help, and remembering what materials are needed for each of their switch classes.  Please take a minute to ask your child how they are doing with switching classes and if they’re needing to work on anything like organization, work completion, staying on task, etc.

If you haven’t signed up yet for our class text alerts, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher.

Reading Homework
Remember your child needs to be reading throughout the week. The goal is to read at least 140 minutes in a week. When they do read, they can read anything as long as they are reading. You may want to suggest a book that will help them reach their 40 book challenge.  Reading logs are due on Mondays with a parent signature.

M-Step
We sent home M-Step reports that details how your child performed on these assessments.  Attached parent report you will find a Parent guide to help you make sense of the information.
**We will take the 5th grade M-Step right after spring break.
